ePlay CEO, Trevor Doerksen, presented to the SMTPE industry group on esports, augmented reality and mobile gaming this week in Ottawa. SMPTE is an international standards organization in the video, film, VR and AR sectors.

Almost nobody in the stands or watching the football game on TV is there to improve their own football game, but with esports today most people are watching in order to improve their game.

The presentation focused on mobile esports production opportunities from live venue-based broadcasts to mobile broadcasts directly from phones with specially adapted mobile games. The discussion focused on the types of live and shoulder esports programming that is becoming popular. Narrative and story-telling was emphasized as a means to increasing audience sizes. ePlay's Big Shot game was highlighted and discussion around a special esports league that emphasized entertainment, sports, and esports content was lively with show pitches from the audience rounding out the event.
